No Reset Button on Your Kitchen Outlet? Here Is One Possible Reason

You probably know the outlets with the little test and reset buttons - those are GFCI outlets, and they are an important safety feature anywhere water and electricity are near each other.

In some newer homes, you might look at the outlet by the sink and not see any buttons. One possible reason: some builders put GFCI protection in the electrical panel instead, on the breaker itself. A plain-looking outlet can also be protected by another GFCI device upstream on the same circuit.

Missing buttons do not guarantee protection, though - an older home may simply have an unprotected outlet. If you are not sure whether yours is protected, an electrician can test it and tell you.
