Des Moines Housing Market Snapshot: 3,747 Single-Family Homes for Sale at $410,000 Average Asking Price

Home shoppers in the Des Moines market are looking at 3,747 single-family homes for sale, with an average asking price of $410,000 and an average of 95 days on market, according to figures pulled November 4, 2026, by Tim Scheib of the Scheib Real Estate Team at REAL Broker LLC.
In new construction, 1,016 single-family homes built in 2025 or newer are on the market at an average asking price of $514,600, an average of 121 days on market and an average of $291 per square foot.
The townhome and condo segment counts 868 active listings at an average asking price of $293,000 and an average of 134 days on market. Among newer townhomes and condos built in 2025 or later, 240 are for sale at an average asking price of $335,000 and an average of 179 days on market.
"Buyers have real choices in every segment right now, and that changes how a home has to be priced," Scheib said. "Sellers should look closely at competing listings and set an asking price that reflects their home's condition, location and features."
Scheib noted that days-on-market figures for new homes can run long because builders sometimes list homes at the foundation or bare-ground stage, well before a buyer can move in.
Figures reflect active listings and asking prices in the Des Moines market as of November 4, 2026. They are not closed-sale prices.

Scheib Real Estate Team Ranks No. 1 Among Real's Medium-Sized Teams in Iowa by Year-to-Date Sales Volume

Scheib Real Estate Team, brokered by Real Broker, ranks No. 1 among five medium-sized teams in Iowa on Real's 2026 year-to-date production leaderboard by sales volume.
The leaderboard lists $33,794,505 in closed sales volume and 81 transaction sides for Scheib Real Estate Team. The results include transactions closed in the selected year-to-date period that settled in reZEN on or before October 7, 2026.
Real defines medium-sized teams as those with six to 10 licensed agents. Scheib Real Estate Team is listed with six agents.
